The estranged wife of Bhupen
Hazarika, Priyamvada Patel Hazarika has said that singer Lata Mangeshkar and
her husband had an affair. “Lata started a big affair with him” were the words Priyamvada
used to describe the affair in her own words. She was speaking to a local TV
channel.
The news comes just less than a
week before the first death anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika. She further said that
the singer from Mumbai was almost crazy for Bhupen Hazarika. She also added that
for any musician to come up in the industry, at least in India, the songs
should be sung by Lata herself.
When Priyamvada Patel asked Bhupen
Hazarika why he needs to spend a night with the singer in a room, he replied at
times it needs to be done.
According to Priyamvada Patel, it
was due to Lata Mangeshkar that she had to leave her husband as Lata shared a bedroom
at Tollygunje apartment when she visited Kolkata.
Incidentally, Bhupen Hazarika has
in his autobiography has brought up contexts about a singer based in Mumbai.
