Indian Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif and Pakistani star Meera
were at the receiving end when their billboards were blacked out by the Karachi
moral police. The news was reported by The Express Tribune. The ladies were
seen on the Lux and the Veet ad respectively.
“Sell clothes, not your honour” was the banner that replaced
the advertisement. Groups such as the Women Professional Forum and the Women
Education Society are the groups that are behind the protest. They are striking
against the immorality. The models in the ads – Katrina and Meera are in sleeveless
clothes and lower necklines.
Dale Bhagwagar, who is the Bollywood publicity of Meera, said
that moral policing in today’s internet world does not work at all. How far can
the police go on to stop it? After all, having a little of skin show, with sleeveless
blouses or a backless dress cannot be the reason for blacking the ads out.
