Sarbjit Singh has become a household name, but for a very
unfortunate reason. Film maker Omung Kumar will be making a biopic on Sarbjit
Singh. Since the news broke out, there have been various names that surfaced
regarding the role of Dalbir Kaur’s role to be played on the silver screen.
Various names have been in the talks ever since. Some of the prominent
of them are Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut. However, it
is understood that finally it will be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who will play this
role.
For those who do not know, Dalbir Kaur is the elder sister of
Sarbjit Singh. Sarbjit was a farmer, who came from Punjab. He mistakenly
crossed the line and was found to have entered Pakistan, of course, illegally. He
was accused of being a spy. He was ordered a capital punishment way back in
1991. However, he wasn’t hanged.
Soon after Afzal Guru was given capital punishment in India,
Sarbjit was tortured to death in Pakistan. He spent as many as 23 years in Pakistani
jail.
